CONTEMPORARY EXTENSION FULHAM

My client had been granted planning permission a number of years prior to convert this one bed Fulham flat to a 2 bed property with a new combined kitchen, dining and living space to the rear of the property. She approached me to help really make this space work from an interiors perspective, she was after a flexible, sociable space that could be used to host a dinner, throw a party or just chill out. I was able to use my expertise to space plan the area, I relocated the kitchen from the original location to where it would be most beneficial to the space, we added an additional trapezoid window at the end of the kitchen creating a beautiful feature, looking out onto a little courtyard, allowing more light and feeling of space. The biggest challenge was the size, as it was very compact to host all the spaces. We achieved the flexibility of the space by designing a movable island that could be used as a traditional kitchen island or moved to the wall as a credenza to open up the central space and allow for bigger, more sociable gatherings. By keeping the flooring finish and levels consistent throughout the extension and into the patio, with minimal threshold, we were able to visually extend the floor space. When the doors are open, it creates an amazing social space that really blurs the boundaries between the internal and external.
